Kit Review – Blackhawk Night-Ops Ally

So I was standing in line at my local gun retailer waiting to pay for one of the last few remaining boxes of 12 ga. ammunition I could get. I just happened to glance down at the end-cap display of the isle I was near and saw a few Blackhawk! tactical lights. Being the owner of a couple Sure-Fire lights, I initially didn’t give them a second look. I was however curious about how many Lumens of brightness the compact light put out, so I picked up the Night-Ops Ally. Night-Ops AllyWhile looking through the specs, what grabbed my eye first was the Multiple-position rotating switch (High, Med, Low, Strobe, and Safety Off). I read on… Wow! 100 lumens (max output) from a unit running on 1 x AA battery. Ok, you’ve got my full attention. The med. and low setting offer 40 & 5 lumens respectively through the High-output CREE® XP-E LEDs. All this in a package just 4.5 in. long. With an MSRP of $59.99, I decided to give it a try; the Sure-Fire lights I own are great but they sure can eat up the batteries. I finally made it home (after the usual risking of life in the SoCal traffic) and was eager to fire-up my new torch. I liked how the unit could be held and operated in a variety of ways to suit the user’s needs and at just 4.1 oz. (with battery), it felt very light in my hand. At this point, I could hear my dogs going berserk about something in my yard so I decided it was time for a field test. After releasing ‘the hounds’, I trailed behind them as they began their search pattern. I turn the light on ‘low’ and could easily see my surroundings out to about 10-15 feet with the assistance of that evenings moonlight. I adjusted the rotating switch to ‘med’ and was amazed at the brightness (40 lumens) that illuminated all three of my dogs as they continued their patrol. I swung the light to my left and clearly made out several sets of rabbit eyeballs in the thick brush. I instantly switched the light to ‘strobe’ mode to see their reaction. As the rabbits scattered and my dogs yelped in hurried pursuit, I dialed back to ‘high’ (100 lumens) in an effort to spotlight more ‘infiltrators’ for my squad. After a few minutes, the threat had fled through the fence preventing any hope of tracking. Live to fight another day… As my squad re-grouped on me for some much earned attention, I switched off the light with the satisfaction that I had purchased a quality, well made and (for its size) powerful light. The only feature request I have would be for a low power red-light option for situations calling for stealth and/or the preservation of night-vision. Checkout the Blackhawk! line of tactical lights, I think you will find one that meets your needs and won’t rape your cash flow.

It wasn’t me, you can’t prove a thing…

Jersey_JoesIt seems a San Diego, Ca. pizzaria owner is adding his own ‘special ingedient’ to the pizza sauce.  Allegedly.  The owner of ‘Jersey Joes Pizzaria’ denies he’s the one in the photo seen circulating the internet.  Really…  It seems more than a few customers watched this and other lewd acts through an unsecured wireless video feed and commented about it on Yelp.  ‘I was setup!’, Giusepp “Jersey Joe” Scire cries after ‘recently firing two guys’.  I for one will be lining up for this weeks special, New York Style with pepperoni and extra white sauce…

UPDATE – 08/15/13 – Hey, this pizza / webcam thing is catching on!  How ’bout some hot lesbian action while you’re chow’n down

Eric Holder promises the Truth? Bull$hit…

The DOJ is considering Federal Civil Rights Violation charges against George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.  Can’t say I’m surprised; this administration will do anything to grab some headlines.  My issue is that Attorney General Eric Holder is promising ‘compassion’ and ‘truth’ in the DOJ’s investigation of the matter.  Truth?!  I don’t believe that for one second.  Where is the ‘truth’ about the ‘fast-and-furious’ guns in Mexico scandal?  Where is the ‘truth’ about the Benghazi cover up?  Where is the ‘truth’ about the IRS scandal?  Where is the ‘truth’ about the NSA surveillance programs?  Obama and HolderThis administration is using Holder as it’s puppet to drive a media campaign designed to appease those who disagree with the verdict.  What about double-jeopardy?  Zimmerman was found not guilty!  Move on!  If the DOJ charges Zimmerman with civil rights violations, it will be because people like Al Sharpton stirred up enough racists in the streets for Obama to put down his 9 iron long enough to get his Holder puppet out.  I don’t know about you, but I would expect some civil rights violations getting filed against OJ Simpson…  Here we go… Complete Bull$hit.

UPDATE – 08/29/13 – In a speech at the social action luncheon of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Holder pledged that the Justice Department would “continue to act in a manner that is consistent with the facts and the law” and would work to “alleviate tensions, address community concerns and promote healing” in response to the case.  People!  Zimmerman was found not guilty.  Get over it!

Are you Fu(k!ng kidding me?!

First of all, who gives a single solitary shit about Lindsay Lohan?  Apparently Oprah Winfrey does as she has agreed to produce an eight-part docu-series about Lohan’s ‘journey to rebuild her career and stay sober.’  I’m laughing so loud I think my small intestines are coming out!  Career? Please…  And to stay sober?  lohan-drunkShe is way too much of a party-girl for that.  This means one thing and one thing only – MONEY.  Lohan is just spent and her career is non-existent.  She needs the cash to pay her lawyers and to support her habit.  With any luck, she’ll OD on something and save us the trouble.  I personally wouldn’t waste my time on this.

UPDATE – 08/15/13 – What did I tell you?  She wants the cash!  Vanity Fair is reporting that Oprah is giving Lindsay Lohan $2 million and a couple of flunkees to get her through the interview.  Her lawyers are probably happy; they can finally get paid!

Privacy is something you have to make for yourself…

Whistleblower Edward Snowden claims that American & multinational telecom companies collaborate with the NSA.  Well Duh!  Of course!, do you really think the NSA needs to collaborate with anyone to read your email?  Let’s get real; you should have no expectation of privacy when communicating digitally.  Period.  There are steps you can take to secure your online presence and while some methods work better than others, I prefer Tor.  As for your data, any fully vetted public-key cryptosystem such as PGP (with an appropriate key length) should meet most peoples needs.  Most people.  For those of you looking to up your game in data encryption, the Villainous VooDoo has been hard at work on something.  Stay tuned…

UPDATE – 08/16/13 – It seems the NSA has been quite busy infringing on our privacy rights.  A newly leaked NSA audit documents 2,776 violations of privacy rules or court orders, mostly involving unauthorized collection of data on Americans or eavesdropping on foreign intelligence targets who entered the United States.  Watch what you say, big brother is listening…

UPDATE – 08/21/13 – A new report by the Wall Street Journal says the NSA relies on extensive collaboration with domestic telecommunications companies to get access to Internet traffic. “The programs, code-named Blarney, Fairview, Oakstar, Lithium and Stormbrew, among others, filter and gather information at major telecommunications companies.” Filtering occurs at more than a dozen “major Internet junctions.”
